If you're thinking of having your turbo repaired, why not upgrade
at the same time for increased reliability & performance?
Hybrid work can be carried to your existing turbo for as little as £250.00+VAT. Your car deserves the best; fit a Turbo Dynamics hybrid turbocharger today!
Some options you could consider are:
|
|
Ported Shroud Conversion
Ported Shrouds help prevent surge by equalising air flow on the secondary blades of the compressor wheel allowing the turbo to cope with higher boost levels at low engine RPM and light throttle loads. They also improve the overall efficiency of the compressor wheel. The existing compressor cover can (potentially) be machined for a ported shroud or a replacement cover with a ported shroud can be supplied. |
Fitment of Larger Compressor Wheel
A larger compressor wheel will allow the turbocharger to flow more air. More airflow equals more power (with the correct modifications and mapping)! Our hybrid turbochargers usually feature the fitment of larger compressor wheels than standard. The compressor cover will need CNC Re-Profiling to suit and the Compressor Backplate may well need modifying at the same time. |

CNC Re-Profiled Compressor Cover
A CNC Re-Profiled Compressor Cover allows the fitment of a larger compressor wheel – an essential part of the hybrid process! The bore of the housing is enlarged to accommodate the new, larger wheel and the profile reshaped to match. All this is done whilst maintaining a strict tolerance between wheel and housing to optimise efficiency of the turbocharger. A Ported Shroud Conversion can potentially be added at the same time if required.
|
Modifying the Compressor Backplate
Modifying the Compressor Backplate allows the fitment of a Larger Compressor Wheel – an essential part of the hybrid process! The backplate houses the recess in which the compressor wheel sits; a larger compressor wheel will require the backplate opening to suit. As with everything done at Turbo Dynamics, a tolerance is closely followed in the name of efficiency and performance.
Fitting of 360 Degree Thrust Bearing
Fitting a 360 degree Thrust Bearing increases the reliability of your turbocharger and allows a safer way of running high boost pressures. The thrust bearing is under heavy pressure when the turbocharger is operating, the larger surface area of a 360 thrust bearing (as opposed to a traditional 270 degree unit) is better equipped to cope with these axial loads. If you intend running more than one bar (14.7 psi) of boost a 360 degree thrust bearing is recommended. Running high boost on a standard thrust bearing can lead to premature turbo failure and a big bill! |

Staggered Gap Piston Ring
A Staggered Gap Piston Ring replaces the standard piston ring seal. It is designed for use in low back pressure exhaust systems where oil weepage into the exhaust could possibly occur.
|
Turbine Wheel Cutback
Turbine Wheel Cutback is a machining process which enables the turbocharger to increase power output by reducing back pressure. If you’re unsure of how back pressure influences a turbocharger imagine running a marathon with a finger up your nose! |
Porting & Polishing Turbine Housing
Porting and polishing the Turbine Housing helps provide maximum gas flow, thus improving efficiency. It is usually carried out on the turbine housing inlet. Flanges can be gasket-matched if required to optimise flow.Porting the Wastegate
Porting the Wastegate optimises flow of the exhaust gases through the turbocharger's wastegate. It can help prevent/reduce boost creep.
CNC Re-Profiled Turbine Housing
CNC-machining of the Turbine Housing allows the fitment of a larger turbine wheel – an essential part of the hybrid process! The bore of the housing is enlarged to accommodate the new, larger wheel and the profile reshaped to match. All this is done whilst maintaining a strict tolerance between wheel and housing to optimise efficiency of the turbocharger.
Fitment of Larger Turbine Wheel
|
|
The Fitment of a Larger Turbine Wheel, in much the same way as the Fitment of Larger Compressor Wheel, allows the turbocharger to flow more air. It does this in two ways. - Firstly, the larger turbine wheel can drive the compressor wheel harder resulting in more airflow (more airflow equals more power potential). Secondly, the larger wheel reduces backpressure in much the same way as a Cutback.

Ball Bearing Conversion
A Ball Bearing Conversion drastically improves response of the turbocharger and makes it more reliable. This is done by replacing the traditional thrust bearing and journal bearing assembly with a dual ball bearing cartridge assembly. The dual ball bearing cartridge has significantly less frictional drag which translates to improved response for the driver! How does 'full boost 500 - 1000rpm sooner' sound…? |

 |
Bronze Ball Bearing Carriers
The Bronze Ball Bearing Carriers, designed in-house, were originally created for use in high temperature environments where reliability is crucial e.g. motorsport. They are now available as an upgrade on all Garrett Dual Ball Bearing Core Assemblies. The bronze carrier directly replaces the original Phenolic resin carrier. With no drawbacks this reliability modification is a perfect upgrade for fast road/race applications or simply for peace of mind. |

Blue Printing Service
Our Blue Printing Service enables us to match the turbo to exact specifications, therefore bringing the tolerances down to the minimum allowed by the manufacturers. This practise is common in motorsport to aid reliability and optimise performance.
Fitting an Uprated Actuator
Fitting an Uprated Actuator allows higher boost pressure to be run. The actuator governs when the wastegate opens. A stronger/uprated actuator means the turbocharger will run higher boost, equalling more power, before the wastegate opens.
Ceramic Coating
Ceramic Coating minimises heat transfer from parts such as the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger. This reduces under bonnet temperatures and protects heat sensitive components. By reducing under bonnet temperatures, Ceramic Coating also reduces the temperature of air entering the engine via the inlet manifold, giving a denser charge and more power! All Turbo Dynamics Ceramic Coating is carried out by Zircotec.

Restrictors
Restrictors are used in motorsport to “cap” the airflow and therefore, the power a car can produce. At Turbo Dynamics we can machine your turbo to accept a restrictor. We also offer restrictors in all the standard sizes so we can supply as well as fit, if required. |
Furthermore, Turbo Dynamics are proud to be distributors for Turbosmart and TiAL Sport products; enabling you to get the most out of your new hybrid turbocharger!
